Effect of lumbar sympathectomy on muscle circulation in dogs and patients.
نویسندگان
چکیده
The effect of lumbar sympathectomy on the muscle circulation was investigated in 16 dogs with experimentally proposed ischemic limb and 23 limbs of 21 patients with peripheral vascular diseases of the legs. Muscle blood flow was measured in the anterior tibial muscle by using Xe-l33 clearance technique. In the experimental situation, lumbar sympathectomy had no demonstrable effect on the rate of development of collateral circulation. In clinical study, both maximal blood flow during exercise and post-exercise hyperemia did not significantly alterate before and after sympathectomy.

Simultaneous determination of temperatures of skin and muscle before and after lumbar sympathectomy.
A CONTROVERSY has existed for many f years as to whether sympathetic denervation of the lower extremities increases the circulation in the skin by shunting the flow of blood from the muscle to the skin. This action was suggested by Biermant in 1941 after studies of the temperature of muscles in the lower extremities after lumbar synmpathectomy. Under these circumstances one might postulate that...
متن کاملCutaneous venoconstrictor response to local cooling in the dog. Unexplained by inhibition of neuronal re-uptake of norepinephrine.
Studies were performed in dogs to determine if inhibition of neuronal reuptake of norepinephrine was the cause of the enhanced response to sympathetic nerve impulses seen in the cutaneous veins when the temperature of the blood perfusing them was decreased. Changes in driving pressure of the saphenous vein perfused with blood at constant flow were used to measure venomotor responses. The increa...
متن کاملSimilarity of blood flow in the normal and the sympathectomized dog hind limb during graded exercise.
The possibility of sympathetic vasoconstrictor control of blood flow to active muscles was studied in dogs during graded exercise by comparing the blood flow in the normal with that in the sympathectomized hind limb. Blood flow was measured by electromagnetic flow transducers around each external iliac artery, or inferred from the oxygen saturation of blood samples from the common iliac veins. ...
متن کاملEffect of Stabilization Exercise on Lumbar Multifidus Muscle Thickness in Patients with Non-specific Chronic Low Back Pain
Objectives: In a single blinded randomized controlled study, we investigated the effect of stabilization exercise on lumbar multifidus muscle thickness in patients with non-specific chronic low back pain. Low Back Pain is highly prevalent and results in considerable level of disability. Many causes have been associated with weakness or injury of the soft tissues in the lumbar area. Methods: ...
متن کاملEffect of lumbar sympathectomy on muscle blood flow: distribution of perfusion measured by hydrogen clearance in skeletal muscle.
Measurements of local tissue blood flow using a technique of hydrogen clearance were used to examine the effect of lumbar sympathectomy on skeletal muscle blood flow. Polarographic recordings on 25 hydrogen desaturations were obtained with platinized platinum electrodes. Lumbar sympathectomies were done on five canines leaving the contralateral limb as a control. The hydrogen clearance data wer...
